David L. Carpenter, BSN, RN, founder and editor of Health Content Works

David L. Carpenter, BSN, RN is a licensed Registered Nurse, health writer, and founder and editor of Health Content Works.

He has 10 years of nursing practice and 24 years of healthcare experience, including emergency medicine, acute-care nursing, medical-surgical care, hospital supervision, emergency medical services, and healthcare leadership.

David created Health Content Works to translate medical research, clinical guidance, and complex health topics into practical, understandable information for everyday readers.

Clinical background

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has worked across a range of healthcare settings, including emergency departments, inpatient medical-surgical units, rural critical-access care, and hospital-wide supervisory roles. His clinical background gives him firsthand experience with the questions patients and families ask when health information becomes complicated, frightening, or difficult to apply in real life.

His areas of particular interest for Health Content Works include obesity and weight management, GLP-1 medications, nutrition, exercise, muscle preservation, metabolic health, healthy living, and responsible consumer-health communication.

Personal experience with weight management

David also brings lived experience to the subject of weight management. He has personally struggled with obesity and the challenges of losing weight, improving health, maintaining sustainable habits, and navigating the emotional and practical realities that often accompany long-term weight management.

He also uses GLP-1 medication as part of his own weight-management treatment. That personal experience gives him an additional perspective on issues such as appetite changes, nutrition, maintaining muscle, medication expectations, side effects, lifestyle changes, and the gap that can exist between a clinical recommendation and what it feels like to live with obesity and pursue better health day by day.

Personal experience is not treated as scientific evidence on Health Content Works. David’s experience helps shape the questions the publication asks and the practical issues it explores, while medical conclusions are grounded in research, clinical guidelines, regulatory information, and other authoritative sources.

How David approaches health content

David oversees the editorial direction of Health Content Works, reviews important medical conclusions, and approves publication decisions. The publication prioritizes peer-reviewed human research, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, major medical journals, clinical guidelines, and authoritative organizations such as the FDA, NIH, and CDC.

Health Content Works also uses artificial intelligence to assist with literature discovery, research organization, evidence-synthesis support, drafting, editing, and technical publishing. AI output is not treated as medical evidence. Important health claims and conclusions are reviewed against the underlying sources, with human oversight retained for publication.

Important distinction

David’s nursing credentials and personal health experience inform the perspective of Health Content Works, but this website is an educational publication and not a medical practice. Its content does not provide individualized diagnosis or treatment and is not a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare professional who knows your medical history.
